Electronic Hours-of-Service (HOS)

Electronic Driver Logs

DriverTech's suite of eLog applications provide a robust, fully-automated electronic HOS system that is compliant with Part §395.8 and §395.15 regulations as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

A powerful rules-based processing engine operates in real-time and implements the latest AOBRD (automatic on-board recording device) regulations, including recent safety rule interpretations and guidance supplied by the DOT. Updates to the rules-based engine can be done over-the-air anytime changes to federal rules or guidance occur, keeping fleets compliant at all times.

Drivers benefit from a simple touch-screen interface and a set of easy-to-use applications that make staying compliant with HOS rules an easy task. Driver Managers benefit from real-time access to driver statistics including available driving and on-duty hours, current geographic location, HOS status, and any active HOS violations. Safety and Compliance Managers benefit from a set of reports that quickly identify problematic drivers or unsafe driving habits. Fleets benefit from more efficient driver deployment, enhanced productivity and increased profitability.

Driver Tools

Drivers access and manage their HOS logs through a simple touch-screen interface and a set of easy-to-use applications that make staying compliant with HOS rules an easy task.

Drivers are prompted whenever changes they make to their eLogs put them in violation of federal regulations, and audio/visual alerts are employed to prevent driving or on-duty violations. Fleets can also configure the HOS system to help enforce their own unique pre-trip and post-trip inspection times.

DriverTech's HOS offering also provides tools to help drivers during roadside inspections, including an intuitive enforcement viewer to display their HOS logs and the ability to email or FAX their logs right from the cab of their truck.

Driver Manager Tools

Utilizing FleetWatcher™, DriverTech's online fleet management portal, Driver Managers can view their assigned driver pool in real-time, and quickly determine each driver's available on-duty and driving hours, current geographic location, HOS status, etc.

Armed with this information, Driver Managers will make better decisions regarding their driver resources, which benefits the fleet by increasing driver efficiency and tractor/trailer utilization. Driver deployments are better monitored, which allows the Driver Manager to increase the driver's home time - boosting driver morale and increasing driver retention.

Safety & Compliance Reporting

Individuals responsible for a fleet's safety and compliance programs will apppreciate the reporting capabilities of DriverTech's electronic HOS system.

Real-time warnings are sent back to the fleet when a driver is on the road and is 60 minutes away from an HOS violation. A second warning is sent when a violation is 30 minutes away, and alerts are sent when a driver goes into HOS violation. These warnings will allow the driver, driver manager and fleet safety and compliance personnel the time needed to route the driver out of service before a violation occurs.

FleetWatcher provides a suite of reports that help safety and compliance personnel determine active HOS violations, review each driver's historical violations and to track vehicle movement without a driver being logged in.

Regulatory and Litigation Support

DriverTech helps each fleet meet their data retention requirements under DOT §395.8(k)(1) by storing each driver's record of duty status electronically for six months.

Individual driver logs can be accessed online using FleetWatcher, and a specific date or range of dates can be viewed in a web browser or converted into an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document and downloaded. This feature is especially useful when undergoing a DOT audit, when rapid access to driver HOS logs is essential.

New litigation discovery laws impose specific and sometimes burdensome duties on fleets when one of their drivers is involved. DriverTech's HOS system allows fleet management to quickly extract a snapshot of a driver's record of duty status for a single day, a range of days or for all six months of retained data. The snapshot is created as a single Acrobat file and can be downloaded or emailed to a list of recipients.
